ASPECT-EZ V. 1 & 2: Strangely Funny & Failure

This disc includes the first two volumes of our new series, ASPECT-EZ.  Together there are more than 25 videos by emerging artists exploring these ideas.

EZ V. 1: Strangely Funny:

As its name suggests, Strangely Funny showcases video, performance and new media art that explores humor and the absurd. Originally the word funny was just a derivation of the word fun. Then sometime around 1806, somewhere in the U.S. South, the word also came to denote the strange and the odd. The current definition includes the fun, the facetious, the suspicious, the insolent, and the strange, curious, and odd. Which leads us to the following questions when thinking about a show about funny art: what makes something funny? Can something be too strange to even be considered funny anymore, or too funny to really be considered art? Come and see what we found out.

EZ V.2: Failure

L’appel du vide is a French phrase used to describe the urge felt by many when confronted with heights, drawing them to or over the edge. This “call of the void” is present in many artistic practices in which risk and experimentation are treated as tools or subjects. In this second installment of the Aspect-EZ series, we are looking for works that explore chance, failure and idealism as generative forces in video, performance and new media.
