Katharina Kohl

Born in a small village in 1956, Katharina Kohl grew up on a farm in Hesse, Germany. She attended the HfBK, the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg between1978 and 1984. Since 1985 she has exhibited her work continuously in European Countries. Although she realized several works in public space, she always focused on painting. Since 1995 her paintings examine the human gaze. The dimensions of the visual gaze, space of a look and the relationship between gaze and space became her main issue. Since 1999 this questioning induced several paintings, videos and installations based on paintings of Diego Velázquez.
