Roll is a four channel video installation of naked log-rolling. Stroke is a composited single channel video work of athletes adrift in traditional fishing dories with indoor rowers. The initial humor and perversity of both works are transcended through the use of rhythm and repetition. The resulting experience creates a sensual contemplation of structuralist technique, subjectivity, and simulation.
Both works find inspiration in Thomas Eakins and Jackass. This queer combination of references opens onto a historically conscious examination of the aestheticization of the male nude, as well as the artist/model relation via the intermediating camera.
