Bathyscape was a performance and sculptural based installation displayed at Space Other Gallery in Boston, Massachusetts, in the spring of 2007. The title was derived from early underwater devices, such as diving bell’s that were lowered over the edge of a ship to explore the undersea. Most often the lone diver was sent to record information or gather unseen objects and present them to the mother ship above. Metaphorically it presents ideas of the artist in relationship to production, the studio space and spirituality. The piece also raises questions of the often-complex relationship of the gallery as a support structure for the artist.
